HERBS & OILS

Herbs have a long history of use on the skin, and many healing herbs that are used therapeutically can be used to help condition and improve skin health. Herbs are known to be particularly effective for sensitive skin, which so many seem to suffer from in the modern world.

Many herbs have emollient properties which mean they soften and soothe the skin. It’s often the mucilages in the herbs that help to give a silky feel on the skin. These mucilages also work to attract and retain moisture on the skin, so they have a strong moisturising effect.

Marshmallow is one such herb – a real Herbfarmacy favourite. It’s delicate mucilages are especially suited to sensitive areas like the face.

Comfrey is a herb also rich in mucilages and lends itself to areas needing more intensive emollient and moisturizing effects. In addition, Comfrey contains allantoin which stimulates cell growth and improves skin elasticity – very useful for dry/cracked hands and feet – hence its use in our hand and foot creams!

Another property essential for the care of sensitive skin is provided by herbs with anti-inflammatory herbs. Calendula, with its bright orange flowers, is a key herb in this area and is also a renowned healing herb that aids skin repair. We use it in many of our products. Other useful anti-inflammatory herbs are Chamomile which is very useful for delicate skin and Cornflower which is mildly anti-inflammatory and a great alternative to Eyebright.

In this section, you’ll find a short description of each of the herbs we use in our award-winning range that will tell you a little about the wonderful herbs we grow here on our farm and, hopefully, inspire you to love them as much as we do!
