What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes red, flaky, crusty patches of skin covered with silvery scales. These patches normally appear on your elbows, knees, scalp and lower back, but can appear anywhere on your body. Most people are only affected with small patches. In some cases, the patches can be itchy or sore.

What causes Psoriasis?

While scientists do not know what exactly causes psoriasis, we do know that the immune system and genetics play major roles in its development. Usually, something triggers psoriasis to flare. The skin cells in people with psoriasis grow at an abnormally fast rate, which causes the build-up of psoriasis lesions.

What Herbfarmacy products can help with Psoriasis?

Oregon Grape is a North American native shrub which produces grape-like fruits.  The root was used traditionally by the American Indians to stimulate appetite through the bitters it contains.

It grows well in the UK and is a familiar plant in gardens and parks with its spiny holly-like leaves.

It has many medicinal uses and research recently has focused on its alkaloids and their anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory effects. The root extract has become popular for supporting skin prone to conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

Our Oregon Grape balm is designed to provide such support and also contains soothing Chickweed, Calendula extracts, Chamomile essential oil and Shea butter.

Another product that has proven beneficial is our Dandelion and Burdock Extract has our seal of approval as part of any daily skin cleansing routine, as it's an excellent internal cleanser that also acts as a skin purifier by supporting the liver and kidneys.
